A Game of Booksathon TBR & Plans

Winter has come and passed, the new season of Game of Thrones has come and passed, and now the A Game of Booksathon has arrived! Hosted by Noura @ The Perks of Being Noura Blog, this fun little readathon is held throughout the month of June and focuses on several prompts related to Game of Thrones.

I’ve decided to join in to try and challenge myself, while also adding an additional challenge for myself: to read women writers for all the prompts! Since June is also Reading Women Month, as hosted by the two ladies of the Reading Women Podcast, I do plan on reading more women writers this year and complete their Reading Women Challenge 2019. They also have a bingo board which I feel like will be a little too much to do in a month.

For the first round of the A Game of Booksathon, there are 11 prompts.

The books I’m planning to read are:

My Sister the Serial Killer by Oyinkan Braithwaite

I actually already finished this book in the first day of June and really liked it I have a lot of thoughts on it so I will definitely post a review in my blog soon. It will definitely fit the prompt of:

House Stark: Book that has a family dynamic or siblings

It will also fit three of the prompts in the Reading Women Challenge:

#1 Mystery/thriller by a WOC

#2 A woman with a mental illness

#3 Author from Nigeria/New Zealand

The Cruel Prince by Holly Black

I am currently reading this audiobook and lucky for me this is a fantasy first book in a series with lots of magical creatures, therefore it will fit in a lot of the prompts of the readathon:

The Game of Thrones: First book in a series/trilogy

House Targaryen: Book with a mythical creature/dragons

Westeros: Book set in a fictional place

House Baratheon: Book with a king or queen/royalty

So if I manage to finish this book in this month I’d be able to tick off four points at the same time, yay!

The Western Wind by Samantha Harvey

This e-ARC was published last winter I believe, but as usual I’m late with my ARCs and so I’m only just now starting the novel. It’s a mystery-ish historical fiction with themes that do not really fit into any of the prompts of the readathon. However the cover looks gorgeous and fits with one prompt:

The Dollmaker by Nina Allan

I do not think I will be able to finish this book by the end of the month, but it is high in my Netgalley TBR as well, and the cover is also gorgeous. I honestly do not know much about it – I know it’s a literary fiction set in a historical setting, but I assume it’ll have strong female characters and since it’s written by a woman as well, I can pick it up for my Reading Women challenge for the month as well.

The Mad Ship by Robin Hobb

I looked at some of the remaining prompts of the readathon and found that the second book of the Liveship Traders series fits two of them really well. Again, I’m pretty sure I won’t be able to finish (let alone start) this book on time before the readathon actually ends, but I’m adding this to my TBR anyways because I am really excited to continue with Robin Hobb’s world.

House Greyjoy: Book with pirates or a story set at sea

Since from the first three books I am positive to be able to tick off at least 5 categories, I’m confident to say that I will choose level Nobel: 4-7 categories from the readathon.
