Hello everyone, welcome back to my blog and happy spring! As usual, in the middle of the month I’d like to update you with the things I’m currently enjoying or recent experiences I’ve loved. Let’s jump right in.
It’s been a great last few weeks of reading for me. During the long Easter weekend I read quite a lot, because most of the time I just spent my holidays at home. So I read a huge chunk of Ship of Magic by Robin Hobb, which is the first book of the Liveship Traders series. This series is set in Bingtown, and focuses on Althea, the daughter of a long generation of Traders and whose father is the captain of a Liveship, which means that the ship is made of magical wood and after three generations of the owner of the ship dies in the ship, the ship will be able to come to life.
It’s magical and fun, with a new cast of characters that are as fun to read about as Hobb’s previous series, the Farseer trilogy which I adored. The plot is indeed quite slow, and the difference in this series is that it is written through different point of views rather than focusing on just one, so I’m excited to see how these different characters cross paths in the future. So far I’m only around 50% through the book and liking it – though I must be honest so far not much has happened. I’m eager to be able to finish it before the end of the month, though, and hopefully give you a full review of the book in the blog by then!
Meanwhile despite trying to focus on one book at a time lately, I’ve also finished some quick reads (one of them an audio and the other one I finished within three sittings), and so I’m super happy to see that I’m still ahead of schedule in my 2019 Goodreads Reading Challenge! It’s great that I’m already a third through the challenge, and I’m eager to read a lot more than 45 books by the end of the year. I’ve also tackled quite a lot of the prompts from the Reading Women Challenge 2019, and you can check the books I’ve read over 2019 in my Reading Log.
Lately I haven’t been watching too many shows or movies. Of course, the new season of Game of Thrones is something I’ve been anticipating and watching every Monday and I’m loving it so far! It’s been a while since I watched the show, and it’s nice to come back to the world, and see all the characters & actors I’ve been loving for the past few years since I first started watching it in high school.
Additionally I’ve also been watching the new David Attenborough documentary on Netflix, titled Our Planet, and it’s been a very educational, insightful, beautiful, and oftentimes fun series to watch.
With my full-time job I haven’t really been doing many activities other than go home, have dinner, and sleep. However I’ve gotten back to swimming in an indoor swimming pool once a week with my friends, and I’m really enjoying it. It’s nice to swim after work and not really do it too intensely, sometimes just floating around and moving slowly in the water is already relaxing and good for my brain and my body.
Additionally a recent activity I did on the weekend was voting for the presidential election for my home country, Indonesia! Last week on Saturday me and my friends gathered together with thousands of other Indonesians to vote for our next president. This is the first time I’ve ever voted and to be able to use my voice to determine a small part of my country’s history seems unbelievable.
My current crochet project is based on this adorable little book that my lovely boyfriend gave me. It’s a collection of mini, cute little amigurumis (crochet dolls) that are just adorable. So far it’s been great, and while I’m making this I am also teaching my housemates how to crochet from the beginning, as they also are making their own tiny dolls from the book.
It’s a fun little activity we’re doing once a week, and although it started off quite slowly, I’m glad to spread the crochet love to everyone!
So, what have you been loving, right here and right now? What are you currently reading, recent hobbies or activities you’ve been really enjoying? Let’s talk in the comments together!
