Here and Now: December!

December is here, a month of working and travel, of hugs and saying goodbye, but also of lovely Christmas music and amazing coffee. It’s time again for my monthly Here and Now series, where I tell you all about things I am enjoying, consuming and loving, here and now.

35221049Last week’s reading has been pretty crappy, but I am now currently reading a wonderful book, Celeste Ng‘s Little Fires Everywhere which has gotten a lot of hype this year. It’s a contemporary literary fiction that has a slight mystery to it, focusing on a family living in a rich house. I’m only around 10% into the story so far but it’s great fun.

And guess who completed their yearly Goodreads challenge??? This girl right over here!!! I have been a few books ahead of schedule ever since I first started my Here and Now series, and now I’m super proud to complete my challenge. Of course I’m still in the middle of a lot of books, so I am also really interested to see if I’ll be reading more than 40 books this year. It’s definitely a mini step up from last year and two years ago in which I only read 37 books, but it’s still a small victory.

I’ve also been wondering on what number I should set my goals for next year. I was thinking of pushing myself a little bit with 45 books, just to make things a little interesting.

As I mentioned in my previous post, Steven Universe is one of my favourite shows I’ve been watching lately. It’s fun and funny but so so well written with amazing theories surrounding the plot. I love the characters and my boyfriend and I have been listening to the soundtrack on Youtube again and again. And I’m super pumped for the upcoming new episodes!!

Additionally my housemates and I have been really into Final Table, which is a cooking competition on Netflix. It’s a little different in the way that the participants are very skilled, professional, award-winning chefs from all over the world. They cook with their partners and the judges are also very highly acclaimed chefs in their countries.

Other than that I haven’t been really into any other TV shows. I plan on watching more during the Christmas break, but I definitely do not know how my week will be during Christmas to new year’s. I might also drop watching a lot of shows and focus more on movies or reading.

I was a little hesitant about putting this up so early, but I’m gonna announce it anyway! A huge part of my activities in life nowadays is working part-time as a barista in Starbucks! It is very fun and quite challenging, since I had no experience with coffee-making at all before. But the people are so nice, I have a lot of new things to learn, and it’s quite a rewarding job for a part-time, low-income one. It’s a great way to make new friends, learn more about the retail industry, and earn some pocket money.

Another activity I had was of course exploring Christmas markets! I posted recently about my trip to Maastricht with my amazing boyfriend. We also went to Koln (or Cologne) earlier in December and it was crowded, but the food there is so good.

Finally, time to share with you a project I am working on! Last month I finished two different amigurumis I will not post here because they are gifts to people. However I am now working on a personal project that actually has been going on for quite a while, but only now am I quite focused on it and hoping to finish it soon.

Which is a blanket! I used the corner-to-corner method from Bella Coco, one of the best websites/tutorials for crochet that I fell in love with ever since I first began. It takes quite a while to do, because I plan on making a large blanket, but I can already see how fluffy and soft and warm it’s gonna be. As you can tell, the colors are Hufflepuff inspired. I initially planned to make it monochrome, but after finishing the light grey color, instead of getting a white yarn I thought why not choose a lovely mustard-yellow color that would add a pop of color and not make the blanket too boring? And so here is the product so far! I still have around 75% of the blanket to go, but it’s been great fun so far, and I can make this while doing other stuff like listening to audiobooks or podcasts.

  2. I have not heard of Steven Universe. I’m going to add it to my To Watch list for Tv shows!
omg your travels looked so fun! My dream is to travel Europe in the winter time, especially around Christmas.

I’m so glad you are enjoying your part time job at Starbucks! The amount of skills you’ll pick up will be so useful later. Happy reading month!

    1. If you like cute animations and AMAZING plot with great characters, definitely start watching it! I think it’s one of those small series with a huge fanbase that are very loyal to the series.
