Here and now: November

Hello everyone, welcome back to my blog! It is the time of the month for my monthly edition of Here and Now, where I talk to you about things I’m currently loving, consuming, doing and enjoying. November has been quite busy from the beginning – I started my part-time job in Starbucks which has been super fun and I learned quite a lot, and am still attempting to read a lot of non-fiction books. But without further ado, let’s talk about other things I’m loving right here, right now!

My Nonfiction November is still going on strong, and though the past week has been filled with less reading and more crocheting or working weird hours, I have been trying to read more, such as listening to an audiobook when I’m cycling to work.

I am currently reading The Year of Living Danishly by Helen Russell, a sweet and interesting book about the author’s experiences living abroad in Denmark with her husband. She is originally from England, and she documents this change of culture, people, work, and especially weather alongside her trying to learn the secrets of how the Danish people have been known to be the happiest in the world.

Meanwhile I am also slowly going through How to Live Like Your Cat by Stephane Garner, a small little book with an adorable cover about, you guessed it, cats! It contains a series of mini chapters that describe the characteristics of cats and how they live their lives, and then followed by how we as humans can take that aspect of a cat into our own lives as perceived by the author. It’s light and quite insightful, and super adorable to read about. There are also cat-related quotes scattered between the chapters that are fun to read. It’s definitely a nice read for cat-lovers such as me.

Meanwhile, to update on my Goodreads reading challenge… I am happy to say that I have reached 95% of my goal! I am three books ahead of schedule and only two books away from completing my target for the year. It’s really nice to be ahead of track and to know that I will be reading more than I read last year.

I have definitely been planning on what number I will set for 2019. I think I will slightly push myself more with around 3-5 books more than the number I set this year, just to keep things more fun and interesting. I think this year (although I will definitely elaborate about this later on in my yearly round-up) I read much more than the previous years because I started my Audible account, therefore increasing the time I spend reading which before I’ve never spent reading. It’s definitely a decision and a way of money I spent that I do not regret until today.

Similarly with October, I am still very much in love with the adorable characters of Steven Universe. We are now into season 3 and I just love everything about it – the animation, the colors, the music, the plot, the magical elements, and most of all, the characters. Steven is probably my favourite one of all the Crystal Gems, but I also adore all the others.

I also recently started Working!! with my boyfriend. It is an anime about people working in a family restaurant, and the coworkers all have unique and frankly quite weird personalities. There’s family, romance, a lot of weird stuff happening, but overall it’s quite a fun watch.

This month I’ve been mostly busy with part-time work. It’s my first time venturing into the food and beverages industry as customer service, and I do not per se hate it, but I’m not a huge fan of it either. It’s definitely a nice way to earn money, but it leaves me feeling super tired physically and mentally at the end of the day, which definitely reduces my chances of reading or blogging more. Which is why you might notice I have not been blog-hopping or commenting much in a lot of the blogs I follow, which is so sad to think about.

Meanwhile another activity I’m very excited about has not happened yet, but it will be coming tomorrow, which is that I’m going to the Dutch Comic Con again! It will be my third time coming to this event, and I enjoy it so so much. All the amazing people, and the super cool stands, awesome merchandises, and of course the bookstore corner are all so cool. I met so many awesome people in the past two events I went to, including Jen Campbell and Marieke Nijkamp, and of course saw loads of people with similar love in pop culture, movies, shows, and games as I do. I’m super excited!!!

I feel slightly ashamed to say that I have been buying A LOT of yarn lately. My head is filled with various projects I want to start, including a beanie (which I’m in the middle of), a few Christmas gifts that are quite personalised for my friends, and a blanket using the corner to corner crochet.

Crocheting a blanket turns out to be something that takes quite a long time – all this time I’ve always done smaller projects like amigurumis, and now that I’m making something bigger it feels like it takes so slow, even though I am still making progress! However I love how it’s turning out, and I cannot wait to curl up under it once it’s finished, especially since the weather is getting much colder.

But a recent project I just finished is a cute little amigurumi I made for my boyfriend, a Pokemon Dragonite! The pattern is from a lovely website and Youtube called Studio Crafti, and it’s quite an easy to follow tutorial. I loved how it turned out, and it’s just so so adorable.

What are you loving here and now in November? Let me know your thoughts on what I’m reading, watching, and making as well in the comments down below. Hope to see you all soon in my next post, coming out on Monday. Have a nice weekend!

  2. Sounds like a cool November, especially with the Dutch Comic Con coming up (or already passed by now).
Btw, are you still reading the Stand or have you completed it? I’m back to pushing through it. I’m still not a fan but since I’m not bored I decided to try to complete it.

    1. Yeah, I had a blast at the Dutch Comic Con! ❀
I totally haven't continued The Stand… especially since this month I'm focusing more on nonfiction books.
