Here and now: October!

Hi there, and welcome back to my blog! October has been filled with ups and downs… I had my birthday in the beginning of the month and had a lovely day filled with people I love most. And sorry I’ve been missing from commenting around the blogs lately cause I’ve been quite ill and haven’t had a lot of free time. But today I’d like to talk to you about things I’m currently loving, doing and consuming right here, right now. Let’s get to it!

18812896I am currently reading Robert Galbraith‘s first book in the Cormoran Strike series: The Cuckoo’s Calling. I picked this up from the library when I was randomly browsing for some mystery read to start this October. Most of you have probably heard of it or read it, and it has been more hyped by the recent release of the series’s fourth book. It’s quite a big book, but I’ve been picking it up so often and loving the story that I’m now over halfway through it.

The plot is about the death of a famous model who apparently jumped out of her apartment window one cold winter midnight. Our main character, Cormoran Strike is a private detective who was hired several months later by this famous woman’s brother, who believed that she didn’t attempt suicide but instead murdered. Strike’s adventures are combined with his dark past, his new secretary Robin, and his unique personality. It is written so well and has an interesting story, though it might be quite slow for some people. I really like the two main characters in this book as well. You can just tell that they have so much more depth and personality that we haven’t dug up yet, and I’m super excited to dig them up alongside their pasts in the future pages.

As for my Goodreads challenge update, I am super happy to say that I am 4 books ahead of my goal for this year to read 40 books! I’m now 88% percent into my overall total, so I’m quite positive that I’ll reach the goal by the end of the year. The latest book I added to my “read” shelf was Hard Cider Abbey by K.P. Cecala, which I really enjoyed but haven’t got the time to write a review of yet.

Other than that I honestly do not know what I will be reading for the rest of October. It’s been quite a slow reading month for me – I’ve been feeling under the weather and life has been quite hectic. Going into the creepy theme of October (and autumn in general) I have also picked up The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson from the library, which I’m super excited to read once I finish The Cuckoo’s Calling. But yay for library books that give me so much love for free novels!!!

I’ve been watching a mixed bag of TV shows lately. Last month me and my boyfriend have been loving watching Parks and Recreation, but unfortunately we have finished the entire 7 seasons of that earlier in the month.

Right now I’m in the middle of several shows, including Fargo (currently on the first season) and Steven Universe (only on the first few episodes of the first season). Last month I finished Collateral and really enjoyed it and was still in a dark murder/mystery kinda mood, similar to my reading habits. I’m really liking Fargo, since it definitely fits into that kind of genre.

Meanwhile I really liked the uniqueness and cuteness of the animation Steven Universe. I’ve been humming the intro song every day and it’s just the cutest thing ever. I love the characters and Steven is just so adorable.

I’ve also been super into podcasts these past few weeks. While I’m making my crochet I would need quite some concentration, especially involving a lot of counting, so listening to audiobooks is out of the question because I’m just afraid of not listening to the full story. However podcasts feel like a better fit, and I’ve been loving the Reading Women podcast that’s giving me so many fun discussions and also a ton of new book recommendations.

The most recent thing I’ve been up to is caring for my Instagram account! Though I’ve had my personal Instagram account for over 5 years, I decided to make a separate second account that focuses more on my books and crochet. Thus, interlacedbookmarks was born. I enjoy following and exploring more bookstagram accounts and planning what to photograph or post or write in the following days. Definitely check out my small account and give if a follow if you like it 😉

Of course my hobby for crochet is still going strong. My recent project is an amigurumi monkey, which is just adorable – and I’m currently working on another amigurumi for my housemate using the pattern from a lovely crochet book I received from my friends titled Pica Pau. A website I’ve been loving related to crochet is wolplein.nl, which sells a huge range of yarn and also other knitting/crochet supplies that is national so doesn’t have too high a delivery cost.

Well, these are the things and activities I’ve been doing and loving right here and right now. How about you?

  1. Yay for Fargo! Such a weird tv show 😀 But in a good way.

I really liked The Cuckoo’s Calling. It had a really nice atmosphere and i like that kind of writing style too.

Hope you are feeling better now 🙂

    1. Thanks Callum! I’m already halfway through at the moment, and I’m so reluctant to stop reading to move on with day to day business :”( Wish I can just sit in bed all day and finish the book!

  2. The Cuckoo’s Calling sounds really interesting but I do have a hard time with slow & long stories. I’ve heard good things about the Haunting on Hill House! I can’t wait to read your review on both books! 🙂

The turtle you crocheted is so cute! I bet the monkey is gonna be too!! 😄

Hope you have a wonderful week! ♡
