Even though I love going to the cinemas and being absorbed into a whole another world for two hours in movies, I can’t help but also love watching TV shows and series. I used to binge-watch various kinds of TV series, from humour (Community was the first show I ever streamed online), to fantasy (Game of Thrones and Supernatural being my old-time favourites), to anime (my boyfriend talked me into watching Fullmetal Alchemist and Angel Beats, among other animes), to dramas (series like Peaky Blinders, Hannibal, and Stranger Things which I adore). Here are some of my recent watches in the past several months.
This has been a huge favourite for my boyfriend and I for the past few months. We binge-watched the first three seasons together throughout the year and kept rewatching it whenever we felt like it, because it’s just such a fun and hilarious show with heartwarming characters you keep wanting to get back to. The series’s latest season is excellent, whenever a new episode comes out I always get excited.
On a lull in between new episode releases of B99, my boyfriend and I searched through Netflix and since I’ve heard so many good things about Aziz Ansari’s Master of None, we decided to give it a go, and from the first episode, I was absolutely hooked. With his characteristic dialogues, dynamic characters and ingenious themes it discusses, this TV show is one of a kind and has a wonderful mix of humorous scenes with heartwarmingly touching ones. I love all the characters in the series and we just adored the entire two seasons tremendously.
I watched half of the first episode of this HBO series on the plane in the summer, ages ago because again, I’ve heard lots of amazing things about the series. And that cast is just impressive! However I only lately decided to try and watch the entire season, and after the second episode I was totally intrigued. This series has a whole different vibe from the previous two series: with a more mysterious element combined with alluring and whodunnit atmosphere, it’s about family, marriage, friendship, children, and life in general. I was never a huge fan of Reese Witherspoon, but her acting in this show has made me love her character. The other high billing casts were also terrific here, and have wonderful chemistry with each other. Twisted and disturbing, touching and relatable, I couldn’t stop watching and finished the whole six-episode season in a week.
Me and my housemates ADORED the first season of Netflix’s Riverdale last year, and it became a tradition for us every Thursday to sit down and watch the newest episode of season two while eating dinner. Darker and more plot-based than the first season, we get to see the characters we’ve known to change and evolve, and their relationships to also develop. It has become a guilty pleasure for me to watch this series, but you cannot deny that it’s definitely well made and the costume, set design, and atmosphere in each episodes are just spot on.
